Из высказываний
Свободные заезды (пятница):
"It seemed like two days rolled into one as we started today in pouring rain on
full wet tyres, ended the morning session on a drying track with intermediates, and then
ran this afternoon in bright sunshine on normal grooved slicks. Our times may not look
particularly brilliant, but I feel we have made good progress. We were able to do
meaningful back-to-back runs with Goodyear's Prime and Option tyres this afternoon on race
fuel with the result that we now have a good idea what our choice for the race will be.
The car feels good in the latest high-downforce configuration and if we can hone the
handling a little tomorrow, I will be happy."
Квалификация (суббота):
"This was a difficult qualifying session. We lost valuable set-up time in the
morning after I went off the track. I felt then that I should be able to make a one-second
improvement to my lap time. When qualifying began this afternoon, all the teams waited to
see what everybody else was going to do, and then there was a great rush of cars onto the
track. That meant it was often difficult to get a clear lap. I didn't get the most out of
the tyres on my first two runs, but then we made some small adjustments to the chassis,
and on my last set of tyres, I found that extra second. There's no doubt the car is fast
enough - I recorded the quickest time through the sector three speed trap - and we made
good progress at the recent Silverstone test finding additional downforce, but we need
still more. I know we are lower on the grid than we should be, but we have made progress."
Гонка (воскресение):
"Everything went well up to the first pit stop, but then my second set of tyres
wasn't quite as good as the first set and I lost time as a result. That, in turn, meant I
was caught by the faster cars and had to move over to let them through. You can get a good
lap time here provided you stay on the clean racing line, but the moment you have to go
off line, as I did, you lose time. I imagined this would be a difficult event because of
the nature of the circuit, and it certainly turned out to be so. Still, I finished the
race, which is good, and we also proved the car is reliable, so that should mean we are in
good shape for Spa.
"The scariest incident today actually happened after I had finished the race and I
was on my 'cool-down' lap. I arrived at the back of the circuit only to find people all
over the track. Happily, I didn't hit anybody, but in slowing and taking avoiding action,
the engine stalled. It wasn't a great end to the day, but now I am looking forward to
competing at Spa, which is one of the greatest racing circuits in the world."
