"In spite of the accident I had testing at Monza last week, I knew once I got in the car I would be able to go flat out straight away. We are at a good stage in our preparation and the car is well balanced, eventhough there is still some understeer. We also have good grip which is of primary importance on this track. This morning we worked on race set-up, then we ran on a lighter fuel load, but it wasn't a full qualifying set-up. I think it will be tough to qualify tomorrow on the front row, naturally I will do my best and certainly expect to be within the first six."

"I had been hoping for dry conditions and was quite worried at the beginning of qualifying because it was raining so much. My target was to be in the first three rows, but now I am on pole I have to change my opinion of wet conditions. Let's hope it rains tomorrow too! I started the session on wet tyres and my engineers asked if I would like to change after my first run, but we decided to stick with the wets and it was the right choice for the last lap. It will be a difficult race tomorrow, but I would really like to get on the podium and gain some more points."

"I don't want to complain about Jean Alesi, usually he is a very fair driver, but this incident could have been avoided. I had just left the pits after a tyre stop when I found myself alongside Jean. I overtook him, then when I braked I saw him shoot passed on my left and close the door in front of me. It is a shame because the car was going really well and I was driving very carefully. In the first few laps I had avoided battling with Michael Schumacher and Hakkinen because my main concern was to finish on the podium."
