"The car is finally back to how it was in the best part of the season. I am satisfied with the set-up although tomorrow will certainly be harder than today. During the last part of the session I probably could have gone faster but I had a misunderstanding with Schumacher, who wanted to let me pass but actually closed the door forcing me to spin off. Afterwards Michael came and apologised to me."

Квалификация (суббота):
"Yesterday I was feeling optimistic and hoped to qualify on the second row. Today, I was totally focussed on this objective and I am just a little disappointed as I realised the first row was actually within reach. If I hadn't made that mistake on my final flying lap I would have gone faster than Hakkinen and maybe even Irvine. Today the tyres worked perfectly. We used the same compound we had in Canada and Monaco where we were really competitive and got results. I am looking forward to a good race and am not bothered by having to battle with drivers competing for the world championship. I will be fair and will just focus on my own performance."

"It is a real shame. I wanted to beat the Williams at all costs as they were only one point ahead of us in the constructors' championship. I managed to pass Frentzen but then I skidded on the oil left by Rosset and he retook fifth place. I have earned one championship point for sixth position, but I cannot be happy when fourth position was within my reach."
